   According to Mediafax estimates, the revenues from services of CONNEX-Vodafone situated between USD 90 and 950 million in 2005. The amount of USD 900 million is close to the estimation of the former president of the company, Ted Lattimore, who stated, in June 2005, that Mobifon will record a business volume of USD 1 billion for the next 12 months. The main competitor of Mobifon is Orange, which had more than 6.2 million clients at the end of September 2006. Orange did not announce the financial data for 2005.

  SIF Transilvania posted RON 37.4 million in profits for 2005, 54% down from the 2004 clear profit. SIF Transilvania's profits on 2004 came mainly from the fact that the company chose to sell, by successive transactions on the Stock Market, a share package consisting in 9.7% in the stock of Rompetrol Rafinare, for which it cashed approximately EUR 25 million.

  The Ministry of Finances resorted to domestic banks once more, in order to cover its short-term need of cash. At the beginning of the week, the Ministry organized an auction on the monetary market for attracting over-night deposits, in which it obtained ROL 200 million.

 Increasing the minimum currency reserves to 35% was endorsed on Wednesday, January 25th

  The NBR settlement on increasing the minimum currency reserves of commercial banks from 30% to 35% was endorsed on Wednesday, January 25th. The measure leads to additional expenses for banks in granting loans in EUR and may result in higher interests on currency loans. Yet, in exchange, a series of banks have already announced cheapening RON loans.

  The Businessmen's Association of Romania (AOAR) announced that official data show that Romania will import approximately 70% in the needed energy resources in the 2010-2012 period, from the 4-% in the present.    In order to meet the high natural gas consumption determined by the very low temperatures, the Ministry of Economy took a series of measures on restricting large consumers. Distrigaz Nord reduced the amount of gas delivered to part of the industrial consumers in its portfolio, while Distrigaz Sud announced reducing the amount of gas delivered to the same type of consumers by as much as 30%.

   Ioan Codrut Seres, minister of Economy and Trade, announced the calendar of the future gas price hikes. Invited in a televised talk-show on Tuesday night, the minister of Economy stated that the price consumers pay for natural gas depends very much on its international price. At this moment, Russian gas cost USD 280-285 per 1,000 cubics and the price will not hike in 2006 any more. Thus, after July 1st, Distrigaz Nord consumers will pay ROL 9,192,760 per 1,000 cubics, while Distrigaz Sud consumers - ROL 9,315,768 per 1,000 cubics. That is a price 35% higher than in 2005.

   Transgaz Medias transports approximately 67 million gas cubics each day to distributors by its network, so that the amount is distributed to the population with priority. The amount of natural gas taken out of the underground storehouses in this period is 18.2 million cubics per day. To this amount, another 32.4 million cubics per day - Romgaz and Petrom's internal production - and 16.3 million cubics of imported gas add to this amount.

   An increasing number of offers for unspecified loans without a mortgage appeared on the banking market. This is a simple funding instrument, that requires only the ID and a wage certificate. This funding method appeared as result of the new legal settlements that tend to restrict consumption loans, exactly for limiting the explosive increase of consumption.

  The first 20 foreign investors pumped funds exceeding EUR 620 million in the social equity of Romanian companies, according to the data presented by the National Office of Trade Register )ONRC) for December 2005. This was one of the most active months from the point of view of contribution of foreign equity to Romanian companies, being 14 investments at a level of at least EUR 5 million. The pharmaceutical and financial sectors had the largest weight, but also the industry of car or retail and communications industries recorded important capital entries.

  JW Marriott is the first hotel to enter the free gas market. The hotels' management has recently asked NRANGS to grant it the status of eligible gas consumer, a position that would allow it to negotiate its own amounts of gas, prices and to choose its own provider on the market. On the other hand, captive consumers can only buy gas from Distrigaz Sud (if located in southern Romania) or from Distrigaz Nord, at the price set by NRANGS. Wirom Gas, WIEE Romania or Imex are other active providers.

Codrut Seres stated that he received, by phone, insurance from Gazprom that, as of Thursday morning, January 26th, the entire amount of gas stipulated in the delivery contract will be provided. Distrigaz Sud reduced the amount of gas delivered to a series of industrial consumers.
