I am more pessimistic than I had been one year ago. After
the EU report for 2004 was published, it was clear that Romania
still had many things to do in order to solve the Competition
and Justice Chapters, as well as the Domestic Affairs Chapter
'', Wood stated.
Wednesday, 18 January, Eurom Bank launched a new product -
the deposit " Eurom Bank Plus ''. The deposit can be constituted by natural persons
and also by corporate bodies. The interest value for each month remains fix.
The minimum sum is 2,000 RON - for the deposits in RON and EUR 500 or dollars
- for the deposits in EUR or dollars.
The company " Monopoly '' and BRD collaborate from the
end of the last year, in order to implement a closed-circuit TV channel in
the network of BRD-GSG, the first one of this type in Romania. BRD TV is
a digital channel, which broadcast on screens installed in the banks. The
TV channel was conceived in order to inform the clients upon the bank's services
and products.
BNR keeps the inflation target of 5% plus or minus 1%, declared

BRD
intentions to open in the next 2-3 years, 200 new agencies

populated areas, commercial centers and public institutions, with quick services
and with a small number of employees.

of high power semiconductors and security microchips for the intelligent cards.
The new center from Bucharest will consolidate the network of research from this
domain, network that contains the centers from Villach, Padova, Munchen and Graz.
Smithfield will invest 850 millions dollars in Romania in the next
five years, in the conditions that it considers our country the main investment
destination, declared Wednesday, 18 January, Richard J.M. Poulson, executive
vice-president Smithfield Food. Smithfield entered on the Romanian market in
2004, by acquiring Agrotorvis and Comtim Group.
Tuesday, 19 January, the company Bucharest Tourism, which operates
the hotel complex Centre Ville, will sign a contract of loaning of EUR 40 millions
with some international banks lead by Piraeus Greece together with Piraeus Romania
and from which they take part Emporiki and Egnatia Greece, Raiffeisen Vienna,
Volksbank Romania, BancPost and BRD SocGen. The financing is for finishing the
renovation works of the Bucharest hotel, according to the last available informations.
The company shareholders that owns the hotel approved at the end of last year
this project.
UDMR proposes the modification of the Constitution, in order that
foreigners resident in Romania be able to candidate at the European Parliament.
